Left-click to go to data source.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>\u00a0Value<\/h1>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As arbitrary as they often seem,<\/span> &#8220;35 percent of what consumers purchase on Amazon come from recommendations&#8221;<\/span> &#8212;\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/industries\/retail\/our-insights\/how-retailers-can-keep-up-with-consumers\">McKinsey<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/recommendationinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-14-at-9.05.20-AM-e1528992361380.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-470 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/recommendationinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-14-at-9.05.20-AM-e1528992361380.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2018-06-14 at 9.05.20 AM\" width=\"800\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>The big disconnect<\/h1>\n<p>While people value good recommendations, most (7%) rarely click on one from a site because 93% find them irrelevant.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, those 7% who do click on a recommendation amount to 24% of orders and 35% of Amazon&#8217;s revenues.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.demandware.com\/blog\/retail-intelligence\/personalized-product-recommendations-drive-just-7-visits-26-revenue\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-472 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/recommendationinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-14-at-9.07.32-AM.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2018-06-14 at 9.07.32 AM\" width=\"716\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"http:\/\/recommendationinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-14-at-9.07.32-AM.png 716w, http:\/\/recommendationinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-14-at-9.07.32-AM-300x145.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 716px) 100vw, 716px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The very small percentage of site visits (7%) that resulted in a click on a recommendation is testament to the irrelevance of most recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>It is probably NOT a coincidence that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lytics.com\/assets\/documents\/Lytics_Marketing_Research_Report_2015.pdf\">Digital Marketing study published in 2015<\/a> &#8211;3 years before the graphic, above &#8212; found that 93% of users say that offers are NOT relevant regularly or all the time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lytics.com\/assets\/documents\/Lytics_Marketing_Research_Report_2015.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-517 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/recommendationinsights.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Screen-Shot-2018-06-14-at-4.18.09-PM1-e1529018853449.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2018-06-14 at 4.18.09 PM\" width=\"800\" height=\"655\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>Suboptimal: Even Amazon mostly fails<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2012\/07\/30\/amazons-recommendation-secret\/\"><strong>\u201cThere\u2019s a collective belief within the e-commerce industry that Amazon\u2019s recommendation engine is a suboptimal solution,\u201d<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 &#8212; Trisha Dill Fisher, Wells Fargo analyst.<\/p>\n<p>Dill Fisher: &#8216;&#8221;it\u2019s hard to fault Amazon for their recommendations,&#8217; but she also says the company has a lot of work to do in offering users items more relevant to them. <span style=\"color: #800000;\">As an example, she points to a targeted email she received pushing a chainsaw carrying case.
